About Me
Hi, I’m Jane - an independent PR consultant based in Cardiff with a passion for food & drink, hospitality and sustainability.
For the past six years I have delivered straight-talking PR consultancy to a niche client list of food festivals, markets and cooperatives; top chefs; local producers; and some of Wales’ best-loved independent restaurants.
In 2022, I created the Cardiff Wine Passport as a way to promote independent hospitality businesses in Cardiff; since creation, the scheme has generated more than £50,000 in revenue for the venues that take part, as well as delivering them hundreds of new customers. You can find out more here.
I’m passionate about sustainability, and relish the opportunity to work on projects aligned with this. I have supported Coed Cadw (the Woodland Trust in Wales) with their day to day press office activity, for the past two years, and worked with City to Sea, the environmental organisation behind #WorldRefillDay, who are on a mission to stop plastic pollution by championing re-use and refill. I have also supported Food Cardiff with the development of #GoodFoodCardiff - a city-wide movement which aims to create a fairer, more sustainable food system in the Welsh capital, and was recently appointed to their volunteer strategy board.
I also work closely with other freelancers with expertise in photography and videography to plan and script content which resonates and reaches new audiences; previous clients in this capacity include PGI Welsh Lamb and Chef Tom Waters’ restaurant, Gorse.
You can take a look at some more of my recent work here.
Alongside my ‘day job’ in communications, I write an award-winning food blog with a sustainable focus called HungryCityHippy - you can follow the blog on Instagram. I am an up-to-date member of The Guild of Food Writers - the professional association of food writers and broadcasters in the United Kingdom. As a result, this year I have been able to assist with the judging of the Great Taste Awards, the world's largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme.
If you’re wondering, ‘Chico Mendes’ is not my real surname, but a nickname from high school - it’s a long story, so ask me over a glass of wine!

She is super communicative and seems to have a creative solution to any problem I throw at her. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough.”
