The Future Food Movement: What Is It, And Why Is It Needed?
With the latest IPCC report confirming that it’s ‘now or never’ if the world is to stave off climate disaster, I can’t help but feel that everyone and anyone working in communications needs to make sure they really understand the issues surrounding climate change.
PRs, marketing folks, ad agency bods - they all have the power to influence the news agenda, change opinion, and shape organisations, and should be using that power for push for positive change.
With this in mind - and so many of my clients coming from within the food & drink sector - I’ve recently joined the ‘Ally Community’ of the Future Food Movement, a climate up-skilling programme which has been set up to address the fact that the food industry faces a huge climate knowledge gap. The food industry is responsible for more than a third of all greenhouse gas emissions, but isn’t moving fast enough on mitigating climate change.
The Future Food Movement
The Future Food Movement aims to upskill two million people who work in the UK food sector, arming them with the climate knowledge that will help them take action on sustainability in their individual businesses.

Over the next few months I’ll be getting stuck into as many food sustainability events, training courses, networking and mentoring opportunities as I can, and I’ll be sharing some of the key learnings here on the blog, too. I know that PR can play an active role in increasing the speed of positive change, so by keeping my food & climate knowledge up to date, I’ll be able to communicate the issues as truthfully and effectively as possible on behalf of (and in consultation with) my clients & peers.
